I often get asked what criteria or rating standards oral interview panel members or assessment center raters are using to score promotional candidates. The rating standards or assessment center dimensions vary from agency to agency and differ between commercial testing vendors. However, despite subtle differences, many are very similar and while different words might be used, many such contemporary scoring standards seek to identify the same traits and characteristics in promotional candidates.
Here is a short list of scoring standards, dimensions, or things agencies are looking for in future supervisors and managers. These criteria are scored numerically, often between 70% and 100% based on how well a candidate understands and exemplifies each trait.
